We are more than happy to offer initial sharpening (honbadzuke) on knives purchased from us. Just let us know at the time of purchase, and we will take care of it. Most Japanese knives do not ship completely sharp. There is an expectation that the end user will want to put his or her own edge on the knife. While many people do like to sharpen their own knives, we understand that some people do not (or can not). We are here to help you out with that. When you place an order with us, there will be a section to leave a note for us. Just put in a quick note asking for initial sharpening. If you have special requests or are left handed, please also indicate that. Sharpening may delay your shipment, and if there will be a significant delay (more than 1-2 days), we will contact you to discuss options.
Please keep in mind that, as per our terms and conditions, and knives sharpened by us can not be returned (barring a significant structural issue with the knife as per our judgement).
